1.33 1.66 1.78 1.85 2.35This page is designed to demonstrate how a subtitle placed on a 2.35 high-definition master will appear both on a 16x9 display and when the tape is downconverted for display on a 4x3 monitor.
The red box is "title safe," the portion of the video frame where it is safe to put text and graphics and make sure it will display on all televisions or monitors.
Note that the subtitles will be placed higher than they would if they had been created using a standard-definition master. If this is a concern, you may want to consider just using standard-definition subtitles, or possibly using standard-definition subtitles and having subtitles placed on your high-definition master for future reference. In addition to having a subtitle appear entirely in the picture of a 2.35 video, there are two other placement possibilities. However, neither is possible using a high-definition master.
