July 29, 2010
Visual Data Media Services - a partner to major studios and distribution companies for over 15 years by providing integrated end-to-end post-production solutions for the seamless repurposing and distribution of content for all media outlets - has unveiled a 3D workflow for feature films and television that features unique pipelines for promos, trailers, mobile platforms, and display projects. With successful delivery of several projects, including a broadcast promo and a promotional trailer for an independent feature, the new 3D pipeline is the latest component of Visual Data’s full spectrum services that include editorial, color correction, subtitling, encoding, and digital cinema packaging.
Ruben Garcia, Vice President of Technical Services for Visual Data, commented “3D is becoming mainstream. Increasingly, we are seeing our clients include 3D in their plans for everything from theatrical promos and video games to home content and mobile delivery. For major studios and independent filmmakers, 3D has become a viable creative, technical, and business choice, and Visual Data has set-up an efficient and cost effective workflow to service their needs.”
The first 3D projects through Visual Data included a multi-format network promo that Jeffrey Lerner (Blue Collar Productions) produced. Mr. Lerner noted, PLACEHOLDER QUOTE “We came to Visual Data with a lot of questions and concerns about our project and the 3D workflow requirements. We had a tight turnaround time, complex material, and a mandate to deliver the best quality 3D image possible. From the service, to the technology, to the final product, they exceeded our expectations on every front and delivered an outstanding 3D image.”
Visual Data has also delivered a 3D promo for the new independent feature/web series “Jane”, an action based noir thriller directed by Craig Ross Jr. Mr. Ross commented, “Visual Data understands building a successful workflow; they have done it for over a decade in other areas of post production. ‘Jane’ came to the process with a number of production hurdles to address, and a very tight budget. In every way, Visual Data delivered. They continued to move forward, challenging every obstacle we encountered.” The promo for “Jane” screened at Comic-Con 2010.
By providing a full service offering, Visual Data is able to manage all of the variables that 3D technology entails and deliver content in any format a client requires; from the initial project through 3D Digital Cinema Files (Stereoscopic) for theatrical delivery, and soon, 3D Blu-ray. Noted John Trautman, President of Visual Data, “Because we have always had an expertise in the long tail of our clients content, we understand that there are many ways that content holders need to use their material. A 3D promo can be a 2D promo in some circumstances, and a 2D broadcast may need to be converted down the line. With the introduction of our new pipeline, we feel we have created the most effective and affordable way of making great 3D available to our clients.”
